Organisational Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General. The incumbent reports to the Spokesperson.
Under the overall guidance of the Spokesperson, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: – Provides information to the media, by email, phone and in person, on any issue related to the work of the Organization; – Support the office by ensuring the dissemination and posting statements and remarks of the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General; – Support the office by ensuring the dissemination of Security Council remarks of senior UN officials, by -e-mails or other means; – Support the office by ensuring the dissemination of the transcripts of daily news briefing using the usual means of communication; – Provides administrative assistance to the Spokesperson; – Maintains the calendar of the Spokesperson (both paper and electronic;) and handle all incoming telephone calls for the Spokesperson; Monitor Spokesperson’s e-mail when absent and take care of any correspondence where action is needed; – Prepare background information for meetings as required; – Prepare agenda for weekly staff meetings and summarize decisions made for the record; – Liaise with senior staff from the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and spokespersons of other organizations; – Draft routine correspondence and maintain up-to-date files and records; – Prepare files for official travel of the Spokesperson, including travel documentation; – Transcribes press encounters with the Secretary-General, and posts on web page daily schedules and statements of the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General; – Support and coordinate press activities of the Office of Spokesperson, including any related logistical arrangements, and organize press events as needed; – During the General Assembly, the incumbent will be expected to perform additional tasks in support to the expanded activities of the Office of the Spokesperson. – Performs other duties as assigned.

EducationHigh school diploma or an equivalent.
Work ExperienceA minimum of seven years of relevant experience in public communication, international broadcasting, public information or similar setting is required. Experience in logistical support in the area of public information such as setting up press conferences and coordinating meetings with journalists is desirable. Experience in setting up and managing statistical databases is desirable. Experience in researching a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic and compiling and presenting information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Special NoticeThis position is temporarily available until 30 September 2023 with a possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
