Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Migration Data & Research Officer, the Data Analyst and Reporting Officer will be responsible for the analysis of the primary and secondary data within the areas of displacement and human mobility and the production of detailed analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders. The Data Analyst and Reporting Officer will support the further development of the data collection methodology and deployment of tools for surveys and assessments in neighbouring and secondary displacement countries affected by crisis.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Clean, verify and manage primary data collected by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) through various assessments, surveys, or qualitative research initiatives.
- Generate narrative and visual analysis of collected data in cross reference with existing relevant and contextual secondary data.
- Produce analytical outputs (eg. infographics, reports, dashboards) for internal and external stakeholders to provide insight and data for action.
- Support the methodology design and the data collection tools for thematic surveys and assessments.
- Coordinate the design of information/reporting packaging and the selection of indicators to monitor the evolution and characteristics of the migratory flows in relation to the Ukrainian crisis response.
- Review, revise and coordinate publication of studies, dashboards, and reports.
- Train and support staff in tasks related to primary data collection, surveys, and assessments. Provide guidance and capacity building to Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Focal Points and enumerators with respect to DTM data systems and data collection tools.
- Liaise with academic institutions, think tanks, and collaborating partners on implementation of ad hoc surveys and primary data collection and analysis as requested.
- Participate in technical working groups related to information management and statistical methodologies for data collection and representation.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Master’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Information Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
- University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
- Experience in information management, coordination and analysis of data from large and complex information systems.
- Previous work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Experience in relevant issues such as migration, displacement, and humanitarian assistance would be an asset.
- Working experience in the region is an asset.
- Working experience with statistical software including SPSS and STATA is desirable.
- Solid experience with mobile data collection tools such as KOBO or ODK.
Skills
- Strong data background (including but not limited to data cleaning and analysis). Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills are a strong asset.
- Advanced report writing skills with the ability to research and report on a wide range of topics using multiple sources of data.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent analysis and writing skills (reports, dashboards, etc.) coupled with a good understanding of data visualization.
- Advanced command of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to compile and holistically analyse diverse datasets, reporting and design skills are a distinct advantage.
- Excellent communication skills, efficiency, and flexibility.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of either French, Spanish, or any regional language is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
