The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is offering a project manager role working on behalf of the Global Media Migration Academy (GMMA), co-managed by the Department of Programme Support and Migration Management (DPSSM) and IOM Ireland, funded by Irish Aid and the IOM Development Fund.
Migration has been of particular interest to the media landscape for the last number of years, seeing an increasingly misrepresented narrative on migration related themes, a rise in hate-speech and disinformation. This has often led to misinformation and rhetoric encouraging an anti-migrant discourse. With information flowing rapidly in increasing volume and speed, there exists a need to counter such approach with training that would create understanding on the complexities and nuance that is part of a migrant’s journey, the challenges and contribution of migration, evidence-based reporting etc.
The Global Academy of Media and Migration aims to ensure migration related topics are more objectively represented, ethically produced, factual and contextualised in journalism, multimedia and film. Supporting objective journalism means developing the capacities at individual, organizational and systemic level and GMMA seeks to develop a broad range of capacity development tools that will allow media content creators of all walks of life to further skills and knowledge on migration related topics.
