Organisational Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Users Support Unit, Information and Communications Technologies Section. The TV/Video Assistant reports to the Telecom Unit Supervisor. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of Users Support Unit Supervisor, the TV/Video Assistant (Telecommunications) will be responsible for the following duties:

  •  Configures necessary audio and video equipment in advance of the video conference.
  •  Installs video conference equipment where required, removes equipment after.
  •  Gives feedback to supervisor on quality of service provided and users’ perceptions of it.
  •  Reports any incidents occurring in sessions.
  •  Suggests improvements to locations, configuration and to the service as a whole.
  •  Installs and configures IP telephones at end users based on requests from divisions.
  •  Trains in usage and provides second level support to IP phone users.
  •  At times, in order to perform these functions, it might be required to work out of normal office working hours as well as in various locations outside the ECLAC premises.
  •  Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.
  •  Oversees and reports on the state of repair of the various videoconferencing locations at ECLAC Santiago.
  •  Monitors video and audio conferences sessions in situ and provides technical and logistical support to end users, before, during and after the video conference session.
  •  Gathers, collates and reports KPI’s and statistics on Audio and Video Conferences sessions in ECLAC.
  •  Researches and evaluates new conference products ensuring compatibility with current operational standards and growth for future needs.
  •  Performs other related duties as required.

Competencies

  •  Professionalism: Knowledge of telecommunication equipment, principles of operations, including local area networks, satellites, radio and video surveillance systems, voice and messaging systems. Knowledge of videoconferences technology, and principles of analog and digital transmission. Knowledge of video interface standards and protocols. Knowledge of digital line driver operation. Ability to apply knowledge and technical skills to install and test relevant equipment, provide maintenance services and user support. Ability to assist with analog and digital transmission facility testing and trouble-shooting. EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. NOTE: For positions in the General Service category, candidates are required to clearly indicate in their APs relevant information confirming completion of High School.

Job – Specific QualificationRelevant technical or vocational training in the ICT field related to telecommunication equipment is required.

Work ExperienceAt least three (3) years of experience installing and configuring audio and video conferencing equipment is required.

LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the post advertised, fluency in English and Spanish are required.

AssessmentEvaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.

  •  This position will be temporarily vacant for a period of three months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
