Organisational Setting and ReportingThe Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) internships are for three (3) months with the opportunity for extension of up to six (6) months, pending on the needs of the Executive Directorate.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the Directorates work. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  •  Assist in analysing and interpreting counter-terrorism instruments and laws from a human rights perspective.
  •  Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights and counter-terrorism matters.
  •  Assists in the preparation of analytical human rights background and briefing papers.
  •  Assists in drafting reports, summary notes and correspondence relating to human rights matters, as appropriate.
  •  Maintains awareness of relevant human rights issues, including at country level.
  •  Assist in preparing documents needed for the organization of workshops, seminars and briefings.
  •  Liaises with external partners, as appropriate.
  •  Performs other related duties as required.

EducationTo qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master’s degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field, OR have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation.

LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required.
