The Private Sector Partnerships Unit (PSP) sits within the Donor Relations Division under the Department of External Relations. The objective of the Private Sector Partnerships Unit is to provide the Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices with assistance and expertise relating to initiating, establishing and maintaining partnerships with the private sector. The Private Sector Partnerships Unit is responsible for the development and implementation of IOM’s Private Sector Strategy which seeks to enhance how IOM works with the private sector to support safe, orderly and regular migration. The Private Sector Partnerships Unit establishes and coordinates IOM’s due diligence process, builds staff capacity in private sector partnership-building and oversees the Goodwill Ambassador programme.

The private sector engagement strategy 2023 – 2027 is an ambitious five-year plan that sets forth a proven approach based on three main pillars – impact, income and innovation. The strategy will assist IOM to enhance partnerships with the private sector to foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Donor Relations Division, and direct supervision of the Head of Private Sector Partnerships Unit, the Private Sector Partnerships Lead (Income) will be responsible for private sector engagement across the Income pillar in accordance with the Private Sector Strategy.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Private Sector Partnerships:

  1. Actively lead opportunities to develop high-income partnerships with the private sector.
  2. Lead the expansion and development of existing and new partnerships with individuals, HNWI, Major Donors, corporates, foundations, and legacy fund raising for flexible funding aimed to expand sustainable and flexible income generation for IOM.
  3. In coordination with the Department of Financial Management and PSP team, ensure internal financial and legal frameworks at IOM are conducive and responsive to private sector income collection and allocation of flexible funding.
  4. Leverage fundraising opportunities through national committee(s) to support IOM and support exploration of additional national committees in new markets.
  5. Lead the launch and implementation of individual giving digital fundraising campaign (Pilot).
  6. Transfer technical skills from Pilot experience to establish individual giving capacity in-house.
  7. Support the establishment of a governance mechanism that clearly defines the allocation process, use, monitoring and reporting scheme for individual giving.
  8. Lead the development of a HNWIs acquisition program and loyalty programme.
  9. Lead the development of individual fundraising strategies and products through diverse fundraising activities that serve to recruit, retain and secure repeat individual donors.
  10. Maintain the individual donor database producing ongoing analysis and monitoring campaign results.
  11. Ensure the compliance with the relevant national/international laws and recommendations related to fundraising trends, licensing, data protection and privacy.
  12. Contribute to the establishment of an external private sector advisory Group.

Capacity Building:

  1. Build internal capacity and expertise to engage with individual supporters.
  2. Work with the Goodwill Ambassadors Coordinator to support the launch and implementation of the Goodwill Ambassadors Program (Pilot).
  3. Coach and build the capacities of IOM staff and PSP Peer Support Group by providing advice, guidance and training to ensure consistent, outreach activities that deliver the desired impact.
  4. In coordination with the PSP team, plan and support global capacity-building initiatives through online and in-person trainings and workshops.
  5. Contribute to the setup of communities of practice and tools for collaboration and knowledge management for private sector partnerships across IOM.
  6. Identify and propose opportunities for knowledge exchanges in the areas and geographies assigned – for IOM Staff to learn about best practices and success stories on private sector engagement from IOM staff in other regions.

Coordination and M&E:

  1. Support in the mainstreaming of fundraising initiatives into IOM communications campaigns.
  2. Support the tracking of PSP expenditure/budget and income recording and reporting for digital fundraisers.
  3. Monitor and report upon progress against Private sector strategy KPIs under direct responsibility.
  4. Work with PSP Team as appropriate, to compile and draft narrative and financial reports to private sector donors as it relates to activities led by the Unit.
  5. Contribute to the development of reporting mechanisms to enable timely impact reporting to Member States, private sector partners and the public to enhance accountability.
  6. Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the Private Sector Strategy.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Social Sciences, International Relations, Management, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Excellent understanding and experience with fundraising and individual giving;
  • Experience in handling Corporate Social Responsibility programs, ESG Frameworks, and corporate recognition programs;
  • Significant experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners;
  • Experience building long-term partner relationships and understands the value of expanding relationships across geographies and is comfortable engaging with multiple sectors;
  • Experienced in working cross-functionally and obtaining relevant content and information from different units to build innovative partnerships with private sector; and,
  • At least five years (seven years for bachelor’s degree holders) of experience in private sector partnership building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropic foundations.

Skills

  • Proven and successful multi-year track record in private sector partnerships and fundraising with strong ability to meet fundraising targets;
  • Strong ability to reconcile the needs of the Organization with those of the donor;
  • Ability to write, draft, and edit, reports, acknowledgements, briefings, and donor correspondence letters, proposals, grants and appeals;
  • Ability to explain complex issues to external donors and present the Organization and diverse operations in an appealing and concise manner;
  • Ability to develop Unique Value Proposition for private sector partners;
  • In-depth understanding of private sector partnerships, fundraising, philanthropy and UN agencies; and,
  • In-depth understanding of migration and business and human rights.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
